We’ve all been there. You have a meticulously planned workout schedule and you’re ready to crush your goals, but then life happens. When your routine gets derailed, the secret to staying on track is a combination of fitness creativity and imperfect action. Instead of giving up when things get busy, learning to pivot ensures you keep your momentum without the stress of perfection.
In my recent video, When Life Gets in the Way of Your Workout… Get Creative! 💡💪, I shared a personal challenge I’m currently navigating. I’m in the middle of learning new Body Pump and Body Balance routines for an upcoming launch. This quarterly process is intense, demanding a significant amount of both physical and mental energy as I master the choreography and movements.
So, what do you do when your usual 30-minute or hour-long full-body workout feels impossible? You get creative.
The Trap of “All or Nothing” vs. Imperfect Action
One of the biggest hurdles to maintaining a consistent fitness routine is the “all or nothing” mentality. We feel that if we can’t do the full workout we planned, it’s not worth doing anything at all. But this is where we lose momentum.
In the video, I talk about how I’ve had to pivot. Instead of my typical long sessions, I’ve shifted to 10-minute targeted workouts. I choose one specific area, go heavy with the weights, and perform fewer reps. It’s not my “ideal” routine, but it’s imperfect action, and that’s what keeps me moving forward.
Why Fitness Creativity and Imperfect Action are Essential
Life isn’t static, and your fitness routine shouldn’t be either. Being creative with your workouts means:
- Adapting to your energy levels: Recognizing when you need to scale back to avoid burnout or injury.
- Fitting fitness into your life, not the other way around: Your workout should support your life, not become an added source of stress.
- Maintaining the habit: Even a 10-minute workout keeps the habit alive, making it much easier to return to your full routine when things settle down.
Finding Your Balance
Maintaining balance is a constant journey of adjustment. It’s about being kind to yourself and recognizing that your best looks different every day. Whether you’re learning something new, dealing with a busy season, or just feeling overwhelmed, remember that imperfect action is always better than no action.
